Not Quite Finnish

Hailey Clauson and Bo Krsmanovic were such an iconic duo in 2017, huddled together against the icy Finnish landscape…

… that a year later Beach Bunny swimwear reunited them (in a warmer climate) to model some of their highly deserving swimsuit designs.

The shoot is listed as “Festival 2018,” but I have no idea if that’s a line of swimwear, or some kind of event, or what.

Hailey models the "Tango Bottom."

Bo's is listed as the “Skimpy Bottom” for some reason.

Their SI shoot was one of a handful of multi-girl shoots we’ve been treated to in recent years. I’m glad this chocolate-and-peanut-butter pairing was explored at least one more time.

A couple years ago, the SI Swimsuit app disappeared. I miss it. It often had more (and larger) photos than what you could find on the site. And occasionally you’d find a weird little mistake left over from an editing tweak, like the way they tilted and clone-stamped this Sam Hoopes pic to create what they thought was a better angle.

Bregje got a similar treatment.

The app is how I found this interesting pair of Hailey/Bo Finland photos.

You may notice that Hailey and Bo, as well as every square inch of the background, are identical in both pics. The only difference is the “reindeer staging,” as they call it in the swimsuit modeling industry.

They manipulated the pic to move the deer. The original photo is the one with the deer that’s (1) farther away from the sled and (2) turned away from the camera. They wanted a more photogenic placement. Here’s a translucent overlay of the two pics.

Even the reindeer’s body is the same. They got a head from a different reindeer photo and affixed it to this one.

Why can’t SI let reindeer embrace their bodies as they are without unrealistic, photoshopped expectations?

Goal-den Girls

Thought I’d use this space to announce that I’ve been swept up in the national crush on Megan Rapinoe.
Right back atcha, Megan.

Let’s also pay tribute to her teammates who appeared in this year’s swimsuit issue.

Abby Dahlkemper.

Crystal Dunn.

And Alex Morgan, who made her third appearance.

I tend to overlook athletes on this blog, but Alex has made a good name for herself.

2019

This is an interesting shot from 2014… I’ve mentioned the smattering of SI photos in recent years that feature no faces, only bodies. But usually the focus is the boobs or the butt or, in rare cases, the vajazzle.

But I’m not sure what the deal is with her (admittedly lovely) back.

Anyway, go get ’em, ladies!

Thumb-Hook Thursday: Hannah Ferguson, 2016

I'm on record as disliking the boobs-squashed-to-the-sides look.

But for today, let us focus on the bikini bottom.

Topless Tuesday: Jessica Gomes, 2008

Hey, remember when Jessica Gomes wore nothing but a bikini bottom and mud for the 2008 issue?

As Swim Daily reported back when they had good content, it was one of her favorite shoots. I’m fond of it too.

One interesting thing I just noticed though… It would have been difficult, maybe impossible, for her to get her own handprints to line up like this.

That’s a right handprint on her left boob, and vice-versa.

So, um… Who got to do the honors, I wonder?

Search Belles

Apparently voting has closed for the model search. My pick, Manuela Hernandez, had a good showing.

But for some reason, her pics didn’t live up to her search photoshoot.

Where her model search shots are sultry, making her look so hot that water beads on the surface of her body...

...her SI shots are a little more straightforward, even tame somehow.

I think this might be the Emrata Effect. You take a model who flourishes in dirty, sultry, even campy scenarios…

…and try to turn her into a sunshiny bathing beauty…

…and you end up with a little cognitive dissonance. The thing that made her sexiest doesn’t perfectly translate to the new venue.

That said, I think it’s true of all the contestants. The stark, color-saturated photography and the sleek, black bikinis created a cool and specific mood that doesn’t come through in the girls’ magazine appearances.

Manuela

Jessica

Raine

Brooks

Erin

I assume we’ll hear who won soon, and then we can notch the first rookie for 2020.

Stay tuned!
