Bonus Topless Tuesday: Carolyn Murphy, Frankie Rayder, 2005

Happened across this photo, and I'm sharing it here because it adds Frankie Rayder to the Ashley Richardson Extended Universe.

Frankie posed with Carolyn on the table of contents page in 2005.

Carolyn posed with Rachel on the cover in 2006.

Rachel posed with Ashley in this neon kaleidoscope from 1990.

I bet there are even more models I'll rediscover eventually.

Auburn Notice

It's Kiss a Ginger Day once again. Last year, a commenter pointed out that I'd left out Maria von Hartz, which is an astonishing oversight, so here she is in all her red and ravishing glory.

Calendar Girls, Revisited: 1991 Part 1

Kathy Ireland was busy in 1991. She welcomed no fewer than three future SI swimsuit models into the world.

First off was Samantha Hoopes on February 10.

Then came Emily Didonato two weeks later, on February 24.

Michaela was the calendar girl as Emrata arrived.

And then Maria von Hartz celebrated the arrival of 2019 rookie Jasmine Sanders.

There are too many girls for all their names to fit in the "Labels" section, which is a dumb reason to split 1991 into two posts unless you're some kind of obsessive who wants to make sure each model is listed and searchable, so here we are.

Topless Tuesday: Chrissy, Lily, Nina, 2014

Chrissy had a bit of an umbrella mishap last night.

So she's this week's Topless Tuesday model, along with a couple friends to make her feel better.

Hope you feel better, Chrissy.

Christie and the Brinklettes

A few years ago, I spared a thought for Christie Brinkley’s (then-)teenage son, and how awkward it must be to have a mom who’s ubiquitous in sexy swimsuit photos.

Well guess what, Jack…

This just got three times as weird for you.

We may not get the Gigi/Bella sister photoshoot we’d like, but we did get a couple sisters this year: Alexis and Sailor fill out their bikinis rather nicely.

Sailor does indeed resemble her mom a bit. They both have that California girl radiance.

Whaddaya think? Are they related?

You know what would have been great? If they had Sailor recreate some of her mom’s poses. They’ve been so focused on historical recreations lately, with one model impersonating an earlier one. Wouldn’t it have been great to see Sailor doing some old-school Christie shots?

Or her three consecutive covers? That’s something I’d love to have seen.

Heck, get Sailor and Alexis together to pay homage to Christie and Maria Joao.

There were some homages this year. At least one intentional… Kate Bock here is clearly invoking Farrah Fawcett.

(Of course, Heidi beat her to it.)

Lais here reminds me of Talisa Soto.

And of course Hannah Ferguson waited only one year to pay tribute to Gigi Hadid.

And lovely tennis star Genie Bouchard casts an eye toward Rachel Hunter...

...and Kelly Emberg.

Yes, these are all quite a stretch. I'm okay making them though.

Some more redundant captions with no bikinis in sight.

6/16/91: “The friendly skies of Maria.”
4/1/96: “Fly the friendly skies with Robin.”

7/26/92: “Kathy is poetry in print.”
7/3/95: “Kate is poetry in patterns.”

10/10/93: “All that glitters is Kathy.”
3/27/95: “All that glitters is Roshumba.”

Calendar Girls

Happy 2012.

I recently picked up this year’s swimsuit desk calendar, like I have every year since 1990.This means I have 23 of them. That’s almost a quarter of a century.

It dawned on me that the first one I ever bought (1990, with Stephanie Seymour on the cover):…is older than a lot of the models who have appeared in the swimsuit issue.

And since these are calendars, that means you can point to the exact dates that those girls were born.

It’s kind of a flash realization of how old I am. But why not have fun with it?

There are four models I can find who were born in 1990 or later. Here are their birthdays, highlighted.

3/6/90: Elle Macpherson presides over the birth of Esti Ginzburg.
7/4/90: Rachel Hunter and Maria von Hartz welcome Alyssa Miller.
10/10/90: Maria is present for her second model: Damaris Lewis.
6/10/92: Angie Everhart peeks from the bamboo as Kate Upton arrives.
As the years go by, that number will only go up.

One-Piece Wednesday: Maria von Hartz, 1989

True fact: I dreamed last night that this suit was Kate Middleton's official swimsuit for the Royal Wedding, and they were selling replicas of it online.Ladies, snatch one up if you want to wear a piece of history.
