One-Piece Wednesday: Ashley Richardson, 1993

I've been flipping through old issues.

How much of my affinity for the 80s and 90s is due to the fact that I was a hormonal teen/young man at the time? How much is due to better photography and art direction?

One-Piece Wednesday: Robin Holzken, 2020

Robin has gifted us these beautiful, sleek, stretchy one-piece shots this year.

She also gives us a nice face shot.

One-Piece Wednesday: Haley Kalil, 2020

I think this is my favorite one-piece of the year.

Haley’s photos are, for me, a high point of this issue. They're bright and beachy and fun.

She’s definitely jockeying to be my favorite model this year.

One-Piece Wednesday: Jasmine Sanders, 2020

I love high-cut suits. And this is a high-cut suit.

The V goes all the way up to her breasts, revealing that they’ve once again edited out Jasmine’s pelvis tattoo. But the sharp angle is interrupted by the belts at waist level. Which is the right move.

Contrast that with this number on Olivia.

This is the kind of swimsuit I fantasized about creating when I was an adolescent. I figured, if I liked high-cut legs, the higher the better, right? A couple of straight lines leading down directly from the armpits. The sharpest angle you can get.

I’m a grownup now, and I recognize that this is too much. Maybe the sleeves could be removed and used as a couple of belts?

Anyway, I'm getting more and more into Jasmine. Those pale eyes are so striking.

Unfortunately, this might be another instance, like with Erin Heatherton, where SI doesn't quite capture the model as beautifully as she deserves. Here are some Victoria's Secret photos that I think elevate her beyond what we've seen from SI so far.

(They erase her tattoo too...)

One-Piece Wednesday: Louise Vyent, 1990

A reader commented that yesterday's post was the only listing on this blog for one-hit wonder Louise Vyent. Let's fix that right now.

SI pics of this Dutch beauty are unfortunately quite rare, so this shot and the spandex squad from yesterday will have to do.

One-Piece Wednesday: Lorena Duran

Here's the yet-to-be-unveiled 2020 rookie in swimsuits by Victoria's Secret and Johanna Calderón.

Girl is stacked. She's someone I'm looking forward to.

Another month.

One-Piece Wednesday: Kyra Santoro, 2016

A Philosophical Question: Was Kyra Santoro an SI model?

She was a model search girl in 2016, but she was not selected, losing out to Mia Kang.

According to the loose style guide I’ve developed for this blog, the search contestants aren't considered official SI models (and therefore don't get a spot on the coveted “labels” list to the right) until they win — or are brought back as rookies in a later official issue, like Kyra's fellow 2016 search girl Ebonee Davis did in 2018.

However, Kyra did appear in the 2016 “Summer of Swim” thingie. In any case, in keeping with this week's theme, here’s Kyra in a couple of cute one-piecers from that summer.

One-Piece Wednesday: Myla Dalbesio, 2020

Well, I need some cheering up, and it's probably safe to assume you do too.

My three "must-haves" (Lais Ribeiro, Barbara Palvin, Hailey Clauson) all seem to be absent from the 2020 swimsuit issue. And the issue will be even later this year, released, as of now, in July.

So let's liven up our spirits a bit with a peek at Myla, one of my faves who will be featured this year, assuming the magazine comes out at all.

Meanwhile, stay in and stay safe.

Same Suit, Different Babe: Stacey and Britta, 1993

This was hiding in plain sight for so long.

Stacey Williams and Britta Dubbels wore the same Anne Klein suit ($108) in 1993.

Stacey Williams and shiny one-piecers are right in my wheelhouse, so I'm not sure why it took me so long to see it. But better late than never!

One for the Brooks

Yesterday, with little fanfare, Brooks Nader was announced as the winner of this year's model search. She'll be a rookie in 2020. So here she is, in a bonus One-Piece Wednesday.

Welcome, Brooks, and here's hoping we'll all see you next year!
